CALL SCRIPT:
Hello,
I’m calling to express my concern about the Syrian Government's attack on Kurdish communities in Aleppo, and to urge you to take action to protect civilians and prevent the ethnic cleansing of Kurds.
For several days now, state forces have been carrying out a major assault on the densely populated Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh. So far 13 civilian have died, dozens have been injured, and hundreds of homes have been damaged. Thousands of local residents have already fled, while most remain trapped inside the besieged neighborhoods. The government has now designated the entire area as a "military zone".
These actions represent a grave violation of human rights, and a dangerous escalation that jeopardizes prospects for peace. If allowed to continue, the situation could quickly spiral out of control, plunging Syria into a deepening cycle of violence,
In the interests of peace, stability, and the protection of innocent lives, the United States must call on the Syrian government to:
Immediately cease all attacks.
Lift the “military zone” designation over the neighborhoods.
End the blockade.
Resume peace negotiations with the US-allied Syrian Democratic Forces.
I urge you to do everything in your power to deescalate the situation, facilitate dialogue, and support the process of democratic integration. And the U.S. must also do everything in its power to stop Turkey from exacerbating this conflict.
