Urgent Call to the WHO regarding the Distribution of Vaccines in Syria

126 civil society organizations in North and East Syria published an open letter to the World Health Organization expressing concerns about the planned shipment of 90,000 COVID vaccines to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES/Rojava). The signatories worry about a disproportionately low number of vaccines sent to AANES vs other areas of Syria. In addition, they criticize that distribution flows through Damascus, which may use the vaccines for political gain. The letter concludes with a demand for coordination with local civic organizations or local authorities in NES in order to more equitably distribute the vaccine.
